whats the diffrence between gypsy's and travellers?

i though they were all the same, but my m8s family are "travellers", live in caravans and move around, anyway she heard another m8 saying sumit about gypsys and she got quite offended and sed there called travellers not gypsys!

i thought gypsys pikeys and travellers were all the names for the same sort of ppl?
whats the diffrence?

i believe with a healthy active lifestyle and some good knowledge and aas/peps use etc that you can live a longer stronger better life.

main interests: physique conditioning, bbj, muay thai.

IME all travellers I've ever come across (we have two large sites in our town) want to fight, rob and generally live like twats

Every time there is a gypsy wedding all the pubs/shops in town close as they know from experience they'll get smashed up.

I've never met a decent one. That's not to say there aren't any, just none in the couple of thousand that ruin our town

It's finally arrived....PM Neb for swaps!

Gypsy and Traveller is pretty much the same thing, although only Gypsy is legally defined by councils.
Pikey is more of a derogatory term.

An old friend of mine was an Irish traveller and said that they were also called Tinkers and Knackers, although I've never heard the latter to be honest.

There's also Romany gypsies with other affectionate terms to describe themselves I suppose.

Ive met several and dont trust any,the difference is in the name.
in an old job i had to have dealing with them,i went in open minded and treated each person on there own merits,in the end it was very sad,i guess its just bred into the lifestyle

    How do you know ?

So if someone isn't robbing or fighting you are assuming they are not a traveller ?

yeah i admit i dont like alot of them my self.i prefer the good old fashion travelers.they are the kind of people that i were brought up with.nowa days you get these youngsters thinking there hard and think they can do anything they like because they are travellers.and that makes me laugh.i think its hard to find real decent travlers now.alot of them now are just travlers in blood and go round calling them self 100% gypsys even thoe they are probably half or even a quarter.but i do know alot of decent ones, and they are quiet ,keep them selfs to them selfs.

there a lot of groups that act all bad then moan when they get treat like they are bad, never made any sense to me
if a person did so many bad things they got a bad rep, then everyone understands but when a group of people get a bad rep,its called victimization,or some other thing.

To me they want all the perks like they are owed it yet do nothing to give into the system, from my experience they are only ever nice when they want something or up to something

no im from Ireland and i can assure you they are constantly called tinkers and knackers however neither are supposed to be derogatory terms just names that originated from what they did as professions

In a town I've lived in for 30 odd years and seen it go very much downhill due to this problem....had things stolen by travellers. Watch them wonder round the supermarket stealing things ( I could go on all day) I am 100% certain there is not one decent gypsy in our town.

You can spot a traveller a mile off so I don't assume anyone is or isn't a traveller....I know by the clothes they wear and general look of them

But that is only the Assholes , I know a couple of traveller families who you would not even realise were travellers ! they are just like any other working class family - I suspect if you or Neb met them , you would not realise you had just met a decent traveller family , and therefore would still think decent Travellers don't exist ! (Do you see my point ? )

Same as any part of society dude.
    Good and bad everywhere.
I used to get along well with the travellers who lived on the site of the Olympic park.
They've all been moved on now.
I used to take the piss when we were playing football and ask how they had the balls to call themselves travellers considering they'd been living in an enclosure for nearly 40 years and longer than I'd been alive.

    Good and bad everywhere.

Would you class Freddy Fuller as a traveller or a pikey mate?.
